Chapter 1: Best Frenemy

1.2 Best Frenemy: By any means necessary

Bartender! Raquel yelled out. What were you drinking? She asked.

Rum and coke Dominic answered.

The bartender walked over to greet them, what can I get for you? He asked.

Let me get Rum and Coke and a Vodka Tonic Raquel replied.

It’ll be right up the bartender said as he took out two glasses and begin to make their drinks.

Thanks but being the gentleman I am I can’t let you buy me a drink; I’ll buy the drinks you just try not to spill it this time he said.

Okay she laughed. So are you dating anyone? She asked.

Um… yes I’m actually about to get engaged he replied.

About too? She asked.

Yeah I haven’t asked her yet, so I guess I should say I might be getting engaged he said with a grin.

I’m sure she’ll say yes, I mean you’re handsome and quite the gentleman Raquel stated as she looked him up and down lustfully with a mischievous grin.

That will be ten dollars the bartender said as he sat their drinks down on the bar.

Dominic reached in his pocket and pulled out his wallet. He handed the bartender a twenty and told him to keep the change.

It was nice meeting you Raquel he said.

Nice meeting you to she replied disappointed.

Dominic proceeded to walk across the dance floor to greet his friends who had left him earlier while he was talking to Raquel. There has got to be some way to get that guy to notice me she thought. He didn’t seem the least bit interested. Well I do need a home alarm system she said to herself. Raquel took out her phone and Googled Dominic Micheli. “Micheli Security” popped up first on the screen along with several clubs in the area he also owned. Raquel began to devise a plan on how she would lure Dominic to her house and seduce him. But she knew that wouldn’t be enough she would have to get her friend out of the picture too. Raquel was very crafty. The name Raquel Evans was synonymous with malicious business tactics in editing and magazine circles. She was known to crush any and everyone who opposed her. This situation was no different to Raquel she would have him by any means necessary.

Raquel! Where have you been? A girl from out of the crowd said. I have been looking for you everywhere, this club is huge she stated.

I came over to the bar to get another drink Raquel replied.

Oh, are you ready to go? She asked. I got to get up early in the morning she added.

Yeah Pamela I’m ready Raquel told her.

Hey isn’t that Aaliyah’s man over there, Dominic? She asked.

I’m not sure, it doesn’t really look like him to me Raquel answered.

Oh Pamela said and brushed it off.

Raquel finished the last sip of her drink then sat the empty glass on the bar. She took one last glance at Dominic and smiled then she and Pamela left the club.

On the ride home all Raquel could think about was how fine and rich Dominic was. She barely said a word to Pamela just the occasional yeah and okay.  She was hooked; Dominic was even better than Aaliyah had said. The fact that he didn’t try to talk to her turned her on even more. He was a good man and everyone knows those are hard to find.

Chapter 1: More Than What We Are

1.2 More than what we are: Opportunity knocking

Buzz!!! The alarm clock rang and Jessica jumped up into a seated position in her bed. She began to rub her eyes as she let out a yawn. Today was the big day she had an interview at one of the biggest record labels in the world. Rockcity Rapland Entertainment had branches in the United States, Canada, India and Korea. They host some of the biggest names in music and film. If Jessica could get a job there she could finally become the writer she always dreamt of being. She could remember siting in her room with her headphones in and the music turned up loud to block out the constant yelling. She would imagine that she was some place else on stage singing her heart out. Jessica would write poetry, songs and short stories all the time, she even carried around a notebook in case she got an impromptu idea. She created a world she could live in on the pages of her notebook to escape her daunting reality.

This is my dream she thought to herself. I could be a famous songwriter like Diane Warren or a billionaire novelist like J.K. Rowling. Jessica rolled out of bed and put on the most professional looking outfit she had in her closet a black pantsuit and a pair of red pumps. Still not fully woken up she stumbled to the bathroom to brush her teeth and wash her face. Then she put her long black hair in a ponytail. She wanted to look sexy but serious so she only wore a red lipstick. She looked in the mirror and said to herself “I look like a real writer.” As she began to walk out her front door she grabbed 5 samples of her writing off the kitchen table and put them into her briefcase.

Jessica had a long way to go to get to Rockcity Rapland’s office in Times Square. Since she had no car and her funds were too low to catch a cab she had to ride the subway. Jessica had to walk four blocks to get to the subway station and by the time she got there her feet were beginning to hurt. She was so happy when she got on the train that she plopped down into the first seat she saw. Jessica didn’t even realize the hot piece of man candy in a suit in the seat next to her. You look tired? A sexy manly voice inquired. Jessica turned to her right to see a dark haired olive skinned attractive businessman. By the looks of his suit, briefcase and Rolex watch he could definitely afford other means of transportation. A little she answered back with a smile. Hi I’m Kash he replied with a smile as he extended his hand. I’m Jessica she said as she shook his hand.
