Content Of Character (Giving To Get)

Character is the mental and moral qualities distinctive to an individual.

Morals are a person’s standards of behavior or beliefs concerning what is and is not acceptable for them to do.

I heard someone say your character will sustain you where talent and wealth will not keep you and those words spoke to me. It made me realize that we can’t cover up who we are with what we do or what we have. We have to get to the heart of matter and fix what’s underneath if we really want to please God.

Mark 8:36

say’s 36 for what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul?

You can’t just go through the motions with God you have to be sincere because he searches our heart. That’s why when I hear so many preachers trying to coerce their members into giving by telling them they must give if they want to receive I cringe. While this notion maybe true with people it is not true with God.

Luke 6:38

say’s 38 Give, and it shall be given unto you; good measure, pressed down, and shaken together, and running over, shall men give into your bosom. For with the same measure that ye mete withal it shall be measured to you again.

When most people read this verse that get the idea that God wants you to give in order to get something from him but that’s not what this verse is saying. God gives to you everyday when you have done nothing to deserve it. God continuously gives to the just and the unjust because of his grace and mercy. If God decides right now today that wont give you anything else he has already made the ultimate sacrifice by sending his son to die for your sins. What this verse is saying is, that if you give to others he will match your effort through others.

Its kind of like if your mother asks you for money, Giving is a test to see if your heart is open enough to give to the person who has already given you everything. You not giving or giving grudgingly is a sign of ungratefulness, giving cheerfully shows faithfulness. You shouldn’t give because you want to get something from God you should give because you are thankful for what you already have.

Matthew 25:40-45

40 And the King shall answer and say unto them, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me.

41 Then shall he say also unto them on the left hand, Depart from me, ye cursed, into everlasting fire, prepared for the devil and his angels:

42 For I was an hungred, and ye gave me no meat: I was thirsty, and ye gave me no drink:

43 I was a stranger, and ye took me not in: naked, and ye clothed me not: sick, and in prison, and ye visited me not.

44 Then shall they also answer him, saying, Lord, when saw we thee an hungred, or athirst, or a stranger, or naked, or sick, or in prison, and did not minister unto thee?

45 Then shall he answer them, saying, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye did it not to one of the least of these, ye did it not to me.

Giving doesn’t always mean money. God needs our time and effort. He needs our hearts. The homeless need shelter and food. Children need guidance and love. Friends need a shoulder and and ear. Money is not the only thing that holds value. You can have all the money in the world and still be unhappy.

Proverbs 18:24

24 A man that hath friends must shew himself friendly: and there is a friend that sticketh closer than a brother.

To have a friend you must be one. You have to be what you want to attract in life. Like attratcts like. You can not want the world to show you love, kindness and wealth when you are hateful, mean and stingy. It doesnt not matter what you want and it only half matters what you do. The thing that is important is how you think, what are your motives?

Deuteronomy 16:17

say’s 17 every man shall give as he is able, according to the blessing of the Lord thy God which he hath given thee.

You give should to the church to support the spreading of God’s word because when his word is heard it builds faith. Faith is the substance of things hoped for and the evidence of things not seen and without faith it is impossible to please him. But have you ever asked yourself why that is? Why is it impossible to please God without faith? The definition of faith is the dictionary is complete trust or confidence in someone or something. Basically if you don’t have complete confidence in God he can’t operate fully in your life.

So while you are sitting around mad at the preacher because you gave all your money to the church and still haven’t received your blessing you are mad at the wrong person. You should be mad at yourself. You are already blessed. Giving isn’t supposed to be about you. You should not give to get, you got so you can give. We are not paying for blessings. We have already been blessed so that we can bless others. You may not have everything you want in life but what you do have someone else may need. There is always someone less fortunate than you.

Luke 16:10

10 He that is faithful in that which is least is faithful also in much: and he that is unjust in the least is unjust also in much.

God’s word and how you implement it in your life is the blessing. God has already given you the blueprint to get anything you want in life you just have to build based on his plans. But instead of using what you already have you still have your hand held out for more. Newsflash you are going to have to put in some work. Faith without works is dead.

Mark 11:24

say’s 24 Therefore I say unto you, what things soever ye desire, when ye pray, believe that ye receive them, and ye shall have them.

The problem is you are asking but you don’t believe that is already yours. The only thing God needs to give you your hearts desire is your faith and your gratefulness. So if there is something that you are missing in your life I suggest you stop trying to take shortcuts and start looking within yourself because God has already done his part.

Malachi 3:10

10 Bring ye all the tithes into the storehouse, that there may be meat in mine house, and prove me now herewith, saith the Lord of hosts, if I will not open you the windows of heaven, and pour you out a blessing, that there shall not be room enough to receive it.
