Chapter 4: Dirty Game

4.4 Dirty Game: The Enemy of my Enemy

Aaliyah sat across from Dominic at the luxurious restaurant as he gazed lovingly into her eyes. She could tell that he was nervous about something. He had drunk half of the bottle of wine alone.

“Are you okay?” Aaliyah asked him.

“Yeah why do you ask that?” he questioned nervously.

“You seem nervous.” She replied with a giggle. “You drank all that wine by yourself.” She added.

“No its just hot in here.” He said as he loosened his tie.

“Really? I hadn’t noticed.” She said while skimming through the menu.

Dominic was so nervous that he began to sweat he could feel the tiny beads of perspiration forming on his forehead. He began to dab his forehead with the back of his jacket sleeve. “Are you ready to order?” he asked Asia.

“Yeah, I think so.” She replied.

Dominic waved the waitress over to their table. “Yes sir are you ready to order?” the waitress asked.

“Yes, I’ll have the lamb.” Dominic said.

“Um, you know what I think I will have that too.” Aaliyah chimed in.

Dominic kept going through how he would propose in his head. He had everything planned down to the very second. He would propose after dinner during dessert. She would be serenaded as he got down on one knee. He had even written a speech even though he couldn’t remember a word of it right now. He just hoped that she would say yes no matter how the actually proposal went. Dominic wasn’t this nervous when he asked a father a couple of weeks ago. Maybe it was because she looked extra beautiful tonight in that new dress. Or maybe it was the way she kept giggling and softly touching his hand from across the table. He didn’t know what it was but as he stared at her he knew she was the one and he was making the right move.

As soon as the waitress came back with their food Aaliyah’s phone started to vibrate. Aaliyah pulled her phone out of her purse and answered it.

“Hello.” She said.

“Hey I’m sorry to bother you I know you are on a date.” Pamela said.

“Its cool just make it quick.” Aaliyah replied.

“Okay I saw my cousin and his girlfriend today and I was telling them about the party.” Pamela told her then she paused for dramatic effect.

“And?” Aaliyah urged her on.

“And my cousins fiancée needs a job.” She answered.

“Okay, What does she do?” Aaliyah asked.

“She’s a personal assistant and I told her you were looking for one.” Pamela said.

“Oh.” Aaliyah said catching on. “I got you tell her to come in tomorrow.” She added.

“Okay I got to go, I love you chick.” She said as she hung up the phone.

“That was just Pamela trying to get her cousin’s fiancée a job.” Aaliyah told Dominic.

Dominic and Aaliyah had finished eating dinner and were waiting on dessert. The few minutes it took for the waitress to bring them dessert seemed like forever to Dominic. As the waitress approached the tables his hands began to tremble. He struggled to remove the ring from his pocket.

The waitress sat the dessert down on the table and asked, “Can I get you anything else?”

Aaliyah answered, “No, Thank you.”

Aaliyah was focused on the fabulous chocolate molten lava cake in front of her when she began to hear someone singing her favorite song. She looked up to see Dominic down on one knee with her favorite singer standing behind him serenading her. Dominic slowly opened up the ring box. Aaliyah started to tremble and tears began to run down her face. Before Dominic could even get a word out she said, “Yes.”

Kash motioned to the waiter who brought over a bottle of champagne and began pouring everyone a glass.

“Are you ready to order?” he asked.

“We need a few minutes.” Kash said. “I’m not done yet.” He told Jessica as he pulled an envelope out of his inside jacket pocket. “I suggested that we do the special and photo shoot on location.” He said with a huge grin on his face. “Open it.” He said.

Jessica took the envelope out of his hand and opened it. Inside the envelope were two first class plane tickets to Thailand. “Thailand?” Jessica asked.

“Yes for two weeks and I’m going with you.” He said. Jessica’s eyes began to fill up with tears. She started fanning her face to stop from crying. Kash wrapped his arms around her and whispered in her ear, “You deserve it.”

“Okay, enough about me how’s the wedding planning going?” Jessica asked.

“It’s been postponed.” Roger answered.

Jennifer gave Roger a dirty look like she didn’t want him to tell. Jessica caught the look that Jennifer gave him. “Why? What happened?” Jessica asked looking at Jennifer for answers.

“Tell her Jen.” Roger demanded. Jennifer didn’t say a word she just stared at the menu obviously annoyed by this conversation. “Okay I’ll tell you what happened.” Roger said unconcerned about Jennifer’s attitude. “The restaurant isn’t doing so well so I told your sister that we may have to downsize the wedding and she went crazy and called it off.” He added upset at the thought of it.

“If it can’t be the way I want it then I don’t want to get married.” Jennifer stated angrily. “I don’t want to discuss this right now.” She added frustrated.

“You never want to talk when you are wrong.” Roger replied.

Kash could see that things were getting heated and Roger was intent on being quarrelsome so he quickly called waiter over. “Yes sir.” The waiter said as the reached the table.

“We are ready to order now.” Kash said.

Jessica watched Jennifer intensely as she dialed a number on her phone. “Hi mom, I’ve got good news.” She said. “I’m at dinner with Jessica and her boyfriend celebrating her record deal.” She told her.

Jessica knew what Jennifer was trying to do she wasn’t stupid. As she listened to Jennifer talking to her mother she began to become enraged but she refused to show it. “Of course mom you can stay with me and Roger.” Jennifer said.

“What?” Roger asked confused and furious. Jennifer started to smile when she saw the fake smile leave Jessica’s face.

“Okay bye mom.” Jennifer said and hung up the phone. “Cool it Roger its just for a little while mom wants to come and congratulate Jessica.” She said.
