Asia Tao and the Essence of the Dragon

CHAPTER 5: Giovanni

5.1 Giovanni : Giovanni Yu

Just as Asia began to cross the street a yellow Lamborghini came barreling into the parking lot almost hitting her. The driver slammed on brakes as her quick reflexes sent her leaping onto the hood of his car. The driver quickly came to her rescue.

“Are you okay?” he asked. “How did you do that?” he added.

When Asia recovered from her disbelief she began to get angry. “Are you insane? You almost killed me!” she yelled.

“I am so sorry let me make it up to you.” He said. “I’m Giovanni Yu.” He said as he held out his hand.

“I don’t care who you are, learn how to drive!” she yelled as she stormed off towards the school.

“Hey, I didn’t get your name!” he yelled after her with a huge grin on his face.

“Screw you!” Asia yelled back.

Giovanni let out a chuckle as he got back in his car. As he parked his car he started to wonder why he was drawn to her. Giovanni felt insane he barely knew her, he had almost killed her and she was now all he could think about.

Asia entered the lunchroom still angry. As she looked around for Soo Yun she couldn’t stop thinking about the guy that almost ran her over. She couldn’t get him off her mind. She just stood in the doorway of the lunchroom in a complete daze until Soo Yun startled her by grabbing her arm.

“What’s wrong?’ Soo Yun asked. “You look lost.” She added.

“Oh, nothing I was just looking for you.” Asia replied. “Hey, do you know this cocky kid with black hair that drives a yellow Lamborghini?” Asia asked as she and Soo Yun got in line for breakfast.

“Yes, everyone does that’s Giovanni his father is some kind of billionaire.” She answered.

“The bastard almost ran me over this morning.” Asia said.

“Well don’t look now but he is staring at you.” Soo Yun said with a giggle.

“What? Where?” Asia asked startled and confused as she franticly looked around the room.

“By the window.” She answered as she bowed her head.

“Oh my goodness, he is staring.” Asia said through clenched teeth as she quickly looked away.

“Now he is coming over.” Soo Yun said.

“Oh wow, can this line move any slower.” Asia said nervously.

“Hi, I didn’t get your name earlier.” Giovanni said as he blocked Asia from moving forward.

“I know, I didn’t give it to you.” Asia replied sarcastically.

“Look, I just want to apologize over dinner or something.” He added.

“That’s not necessary just learn to drive.” Asia said as she walked around him.

Giovanni turned around and grabbed her wrist. “Please.” He started but quickly stopped and released his grip when he saw the dirty look she gave him. “Okay, I’m sorry but I promise I am a nice guy if you get to know me.” He told her.

“I know all I need to know.” She said.

“Cool, I’ll leave you alone then as soon as you tell me your name.” Giovanni said with a grin.

“Asia.” She answered.

Asia was now at the front of the line. She began to reach in her pocket for money to pay for breakfast.

“No, let me.” Giovanni said. “I got these two.” He told the cafeteria lady.

“Thanks.” Soo Yun said.

“Yeah, Thanks.” Asia chimed in.

Giovanni smiled and said, “Bye Asia.” Then he returned to his table.

“What an ass.” Asia said as she turned to look at Soo Yun who was grinning from ear to ear.

“Yeah but he’s cute though.” She replied.

CHAPTER 4: Bloodline

4.4 Bloodline: If You Can’t Beat Them

“I really don’t like that kid, and I know that would burst his bubble if he saw Chenoa getting all jealous of you and Aoki,” Dyami said. “He needs to be taken down a peg.” He said.

“I agree but do you think becoming his friend would make Chenoa think I’m over her?” Ahote asked.

“Yes that and making tonight memorable for Aoki so that she tells everyone and makes all the other girls jealous,” Dyami replied.

“How exactly do I do that?” Ahote asked confused. “I don’t think getting her drunk and taking her clubbing will make for some unforgettable memories that will have everyone jealous.” He said.

“Okay well, what do you think we should do then?’ Dyami asked. “Dinner and a movie?” he laughed.

“No, but we have to do something more romantic than going to a club.” He said. “And something more exciting than going to a restaurant and a movie we have to meet in the middle.” He added.

“Okay well, you think about that while I go get some ice so I can get tipsy.’ Dyami said. “Do you want me to get you a cup or what?” Dyami asked as he got out of the car.

“Nah man I’m good,” Ahote said. “Hurry up.” He added as Dyami went into the community center.

Ahote began to think of what else they could do in town that would impress not only Aoki but also make every girl she told jealously. Ahote started to get antsy as he waited for Dyami to get ice. He wanted to hurry up and get into town before they got caught behind Dyami’s antics. He did not want to ruin his one good chance at impressing Aoki before it even began. He was afraid that someone would see him and Dyami then tell his grandfather because no one on the reservation could help but gossip.

“Hey man, open the door,” Dyami said as he came back to the truck with four cups of ice.

Ahote leaned over and opened the passenger side door for Dyami to get in. “I told you not to get me a cup; I’m not drinking,” Ahote said as he saw how many cups Dyami had.

“I know both of these cups are for me.” He said. “Now come let’s go get the girls I’m ready to turn up.” He added with a grin.

Ahote cranked up the truck and drove over to Aoki’s house. “Should I go door to the door?” Ahote asked as he parked in front of her house.

“I wouldn’t parents like to ask questions, and you are a horrible liar so I was you I would text her,” Dyami said as he poured vodka into his cup. “Hey tell her to bring out some juice for the vodka.” He added.

“Okay,” Ahote said as texted Aoki.

“You look, nervous dude, have a drink and loosen up,” Dyami said as he began to pour Ahote a cup of Vodka.

“That’s enough.” He said as he took the cup a gulped down the Vodka.

“Oh man look I think that’s them coming from the backyard,” Dyami said excitedly. “Wow, I have never seen them dress like that.” He said.

“Yeah they look hot,” Ahote said in shock as he watched Aoki and Kim make their way to the truck. “I think I need another drink.” He added.

Innocent Bystander

Matthew 25:41-45

say’s 41 Then shall he say also unto them on the left hand, Depart from me, ye cursed, into everlasting fire, prepared for the devil and his angels: 42 For I was an hungred, and ye gave me no meat: I was thirsty, and ye gave me no drink: 43 I was a stranger, and ye took me not in: naked, and ye clothed me not: sick, and in prison, and ye visited me not. 44 Then shall they also answer him, saying, Lord, when saw we thee an hungred, or athirst, or a stranger, or naked, or sick, or in prison, and did not minister unto thee? 45 Then shall he answer them, saying, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye did it not to one of the least of these, ye did it not to me.

Are you a bystander in your own life? Are you just letting things happen to you? Are you just watching things happen to other people when you could do something? Are you diffusing responsibility and waiting for someone else to step in?

A bystander is a person who is present at an event or incident but does not take part. Wikipedia describes the bystander effect as a social phenomenon in which individuals do not offer help to a victim when other people are present. You condone bullying and bad behavior by watching and doing nothing. If you are not part of the solution you are contributing to the problem. Innocent bystanders as I like to call them, give a bully the audience he or she needs to perform and their silence is often viewed as acceptance.

What are you accepting in your life? The Devil, life and people can only do to you what you give them permission to do they can only break you if you let them. The bible tells us that there is time for everything. Are you allowing something to over stay its welcome in your life? Have you given up fighting because of fear or weariness? I’m here to tell you that Jesus did not die on the cross for just for you to barely make it or for you to settle. The bible says for God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind. Fear is the enemy of faith.

Often times in life we get comfortable with saying and doing nothing. We think we can avoid trouble if we just straddle fence and stay neutral, but that’s not true. Not doing something right is equal to doing something wrong. Its one thing to have to answer for the things you did do but what about when you have to answer for the things you didn’t do? I’m not just talking about what you didn’t do for others I am also talking about what you didn’t do for yourself.

When I first read the bible verse where it said inasmuch as ye did it not to one of the least of these, ye did it not to me I thought it was just talking about other people. But after years of living and not loving myself enough to know that deserved more out of life I learned that God meant for us include ourselves in that statement. God is not only worried about we treat others he is also worried about how we treat ourselves.

God made us in his image we are his children. Anyone who is a parent knows that if someone hurts your child it is like their hurting you even if that person is your child itself. God takes it personally when we don’t love one another or stand up one another and he takes it just as personally when you mistreat yourself. For instance the bible says to love your neighbor as you would yourself but if you don’t love yourself what good is your love to someone else. The bible also says do unto to others as you would have them do unto you but if you let people treat you any kind of way how would you know how to treat another person.

So many people accomplish great things in life but still remain unhappy because they only see value in their accomplishments and not in themselves. When you only value your accomplishments that leaves room from someone to come along and make you like a failure if they have accomplished more. That’s why God doesn’t save us based what we have accomplished in life but based on our faith we are saved by his grace so that no man can boast.

You have to learn to see yourself through God’s eyes; God searches the heart of man or woman that’s where he measures our value. Love starts with self. If you don’t love yourself you can’t love anyone else. If you can’t stand up for yourself you can’t fight for anyone else. You have to start seeing value in you and stop being an innocent bystander in your own life just going through the motions. If you don’t matter to you nothing will ever matter to you.

Chapter 4: The One

4.3 The One: Collateral Damage

Angelo waited outside the mall for Alejandro to arrive. He already had alerted security, which were going through the security tapes. He paced back and forth dreading what would aspire between him and cousin. He knew that Alejandro was livid and somebody was going to have to pay and it would most likely be him.

Alejandro pulled up at the mall in the back seat of a black Rolls Royce. He jumped out of the car dressed in all black. A black dress shirt, black slacks and black dress shoes his entire outfit screamed mob boss. From his gold chain to his gold Rolex to his gold pinky ring and his gold-rimmed shades he looked like money.

“What the hell happened!” he yelled.

“She went into a store and then she just disappeared.” Angelo said.

“Where were you?” Alejandro asked.

“I was sitting on a bench right outside the store waiting on her.” He answered.

Alejandro clenched his jaw and took a deep breath. “You were suppose to be watching her.” He said. Alejandro was just about to lose his temper when mall security approached him.

“Mr. Bastinelli we found the girl she left with, that detective you sent over is trying to identify her right now.” The man said.

“Okay take me to him.” Alejandro said calmly as he looked at Angelo like the conversation wasn’t over.

Alejandro and Angelo entered the small security room of the mall. There sat two security guards and a big man in a cheap suit. “I know who your girl left with.” The man in the cheap suit said. “A girl named Deon Waters they went to school together.” He added. “I got an address for her, do want me to handle this?” he asked.

“No, detective Rossi me and my cousin will take it from here.” Alejandro said.

“Okay, cool I’m gone then.” Detective Rossi said with a doughnut in his mouth as he left.

Alejandro was relieved and angry at the same time. “This will be the last time she leaves my sight.” He thought. He didn’t want to admit it but he was afraid to lose her but he didn’t know how to make her want to stay.

Camilla and Deon were sitting in Deon’s living room talking nervously. Deon’s parents were out of town so they were on their own. Not that her parents would have been any help from ruthless murders who were in bed with the police department anyway.

“Deon I’m so scared Alejandro is crazy.” Camilla said. “I don’t know why he just didn’t kill me too, instead he’s holding me hostage and treating me like his girlfriend or something.” She added. Deon was just about to speak when they heard a loud banging on the door. “They found me.” Camilla whispered.

“What are we going to do?” Deon asked.

“Camilla!” Alejandro called from outside the front door.

“Lets go out the back.” Camilla suggested.

Deon and Camilla ran to the back door just as Alejandro kicked it in. Alejandro looked at Camilla with anger in his eyes then he took out a gun and shot Deon two times in the chest.

“No!” Camilla screamed as she dropped to her knees and began to cry hysterically.

“What happened?” Angelo asked as he ran in through the back door. He saw Deon’s lifelessly body lying on the kitchen floor in a pool of blood as Camilla knelt crying by her side. Angelo went to Camilla and held her. “Man did you have to kill her?” he asked Alejandro.

“You are a monster!” Camilla yelled. “She was my best friend.” She cried. Camilla saw Angelo’s gun hanging off his hip. She wanted to kill Alejandro he made her sick. She grabbed the gun and pointed it at Alejandro as she stood up while Angelo looked on in shock.

“You wouldn’t dare.” Alejandro said as he stared her down. “Put the gun down.” He said as he began to walk towards her. Before Alejandro could take a second step Camilla shot him.

Chapter 4: The beginning of the end

4.3 The beginning of the end: Gone Baby Gone

Dylan didn’t know how to feel about what Dawn had said. He couldn’t believe she would get an abortion without even consulting him. On the other hand Dawn was right he didn’t want a child. The day he found out Dawn was pregnant he cheated on her with a cheerleader. He was young and stupid and he didn’t know what he had. Dawn was beautiful and smart; she would have made a great mother and wife. Dylan couldn’t say the same for himself. He was afraid to be someone’s father. He was afraid that he was no good at it and he didn’t want to mess up some kid the way his father did him. Dylan buzzed for the nurse. He was ready to go, he had to find Dawn and apologize.

Dawn sat in her car crying hysterically and pounding her fists on the dashboard. “I should never started again with him!” she screamed. “That bastard hasn’t changed one bit!” she yelled as she tears from her face. Dawn begin to fumble around her car trying to find out where she had dropped her keys. She had her keys in hand ready to start the car when her phone rang. It was Dylan. Dawn took a deep breath and composed herself. “Hello.” She answered angrily.

“Can you come back up they won’t let me leave.” He pleaded.

“Dylan, I can’t do this right now or ever, we should just go our separate ways.” She told him.

The line went silent all you could hear was the sound of the two breathing. “If you don’t come up here I’m coming down.” Dylan said demandingly. “Dawn, I love you.” He added hoping that would change her mind.

“Okay, just for a minute.” She said.

Dawn knew this was a mistake but deep down she still had hope for them. Eventually Dylan would let her down like always did but she was willing to go along for the ride. Dawn got out of her car and went back into the hospital. As she walked down the long hallway she was dreading the conversation that she knew was coming. As she approached the room she saw Dylan hugging a woman with shoulder length brown hair. With closer examination she recognized the woman was Meredith.

“Hi, Dawn its nice to see you.” Meredith said as Dawn entered the room.

“Hi.” Dawn said putting on a fake smile.

“I was just telling Dylan the good news, we’re pregnant.” Meredith said.

“Oh really, that’s wonderful.” Dawn said shooting Dylan a shocked looked. Dylan began to mouth the words I didn’t know. “Well I just came to see how this guy was doing but I’ll leave you two alone.” Dawn said.

“Maybe we can get together later?” Meredith asked.

“ Yeah sure.” Dawn said as she exited the hospital room.

She couldn’t believe she had let him suck her in again. “How could I have been so stupid?” she thought as she stomped down the hallway out of the hospital. “Now Meredith is pregnant!” she screamed inside her head. Dawn wanted to kill them both. “That’s what I should do.” She thought. “I should kill them both.”

Where He Brought Me From

Chapter 4: Family Reunion

4.3 Family: Green With Envy

Jennifer always envied Jessica. She envied her beauty and talent. People were always telling her how beautiful she was saying that she should be a model. Then there were the people gushing over her voice and the poetry she would write. It all seemed so effortlessly for her. Jennifer was the one with the college degree and both her parents but she still hated that she wasn’t more like Jessica. She could remember when they were kids that she would always remind Jessica how much more she had than her. She was so mean to Jessica. Jennifer’s father made sure she got whatever she wanted while Jessica barely got anything and their mother didn’t even care. But for some reason when Jennifer thought back on things she still felt like the loser because she was always so unhappy. Why was Jessica so happy all the time? Jennifer thought. What the hell did she have to be happy about?

Jennifer and Roger pulled up to the valet at the luxurious Wild Boar. A nicely dressed handsome valet opened her door with a welcoming smile on his face. Jennifer took a deep breath as she got out the car and took Roger’s hand. They walked through the door of the restaurant to the hostess stand.

“Yes we are here for the Kealoha party.” Jennifer said.

“Yes, ma’am right this way.” The hostess said as she led them to their table.

Jennifer could see Jessica in the distance and she looked gorgeous. She was sitting next to a very handsome man laughing and talking. As they got closer Jennifer began to flashback to when they were teenagers. She thought about the time Jessica had a crush on a boy so she told the guy a bunch of lies about her so he wouldn’t like her, then she slept with him. She thought about all the times her mother made Jessica cook and clean while she did nothing. She thought about the many times her father cursed Jessica out or hit her while their mother did nothing. She remembered hearing Jessica cry all night through those thin walls but now it was as if none of that ever happened.

“Jen, Roger!” Jessica squealed as she stood up and gave them both a hug. “This is Kash Torelli.” She said.

“Hi, how are you?” Kash asked as he shook both of their hands.

“Good.” They answered in unison.

“Torelli, like Rockcity Rapland Entertainment Torelli’s? Roger asked.

“Yes, that would be me.” Kash said with a laugh as everyone sat down. “I’m glad you guys are here I didn’t know how long I could keep this a secret.” Kash said.

“What are you talking about?” Jessica asked confused.

“Well, okay everyone knows about the three sixty record deal Jessica has just got signed to already.” Kash said dragging things out.

“Yes.” Jeesica said.

“Well the company was so impressed by you that they have decided to do a big special in our magazine and on our channel about you.” He added.

“Are you serious!” Jessica said gleefully as she hugged Kash.

“You deserve it.” Kash told her as he kissed her on the forehead.

“Congratulations.” Roger said.

“Yeah, I’m so excited for you.” Jennifer chimed in and forced herself to smile.

Everything had come full circle for Jessica and Jennifer didn’t know how to feel about it. Her sister was finally happy but she was not happy for her but then again she never was. Seeing Jessica down made Jennifer feel better about herself, so what would she do now.

Trouble

I know what I don’t want

And I can’t be convinced otherwise

Soft lips

Piercing eyes

Long tales

Lullaby’s

I love the way you sound

You make my childhood fantasies linger

I’m a dreamer now

lulled to sleep by your fingers

Wake up

I tell myself

This is all just a dream

The things I use to want

Are not as golden as they seemed

I must continue through the open door

And leave locked ones behind

Shame on the these snakes

Poison to my mind

Your words were slick

Your beauty is rare

But you will lead me to trouble

And leave me down there
