Chapter 5: Divine Intervention

5.4 Divine Intervention: To Be Or Not To Be

Jessica and Kash pulled up to the studio. She had already thought up some lyrics to the music Kash had played for her. As the limo stopped in front of Rockcity Rapland Entertainment Jessica’s heart began to race. This was it, her moment. She would finally get to be in a real studio singing her songs. The driver opened the door and Kash got out of the car but Jessica just froze.

“Are you okay?” Kash asked as he reached out his hand to her.

“Yes.” She answered as she snapped out of it. “I’m just happy.” She said as tears formed in her eyes. Kash smiled at her and grabbed her hand.

“Come on.” He said.

The studio was enormous. Jessica was in awe of all the expensive looking equipment. There were so many knobs and buttons everywhere. She felt like a kid in a candy store as her eyes darted around the room. There was something almost whimsical about room nothing seemed real.

“Hey I’m Faze One your engineer for today.” An average looking man in a jogging suit said as he shook her hand.

“Hi, I’m Jessica.” She replied.

“She wrote something for that upbeat track you sent us,” Kash said.

“Cool let me hear it.” Faze One said.

Jessica took a deep breath then began singing and snapping her fingers to keep time. Faze One looked floored as he listened intently.

When she finished he asked, “Did you write this one the way over?”

“Yes.” She replied nervously.

“Don’t look so scared.” He laughed. “That was amazing I’m shocked you wrote something that good so fast.” He added.

“Thank you.” She replied.

“Well, just let me set up the track and you can go ahead and go in the booth.” He told her.

As Jessica sat patiently in the booth waiting for Faze One to setup the track she got a text from Jennifer. The text read lunch at one at Carmon’s. Jessica shook her head and turned her phone off without replying. She started to sing her song quietly to herself.

“Okay, are you ready?” Faze One asked over the intercom.

“Yes,” Jessica replied as she nodded her head yes.

Jessica put on the headphones and the music begun to play. As she sung Kash smiled and stared in amazement. He was truly falling in love with her. He wanted to take care of her and protect her from anyone who would bring her harm including her family.

The song was finished and to Jessica’s dismay, she still had time to make it to lunch. As she came out of the booth Kash asked, “So where are we having lunch?” Jessica looked frustrated and rolled her eyes.

“Don’t do that you agreed to go and I’ll be with you.” He said.

“Carmon’s in twenty minutes.” She mumbled.

“Okay Faze One it was good seeing you but we have a lunch to get to, send me the track when it’s finished,” Kash said as he shook his hand.

“Will do.” He replied.

“Yes thank you so much,” Jessica said as she hugged Faze One.

Jessica was anxious as she and Kash walked out to the limo hand in hand. She wasn’t excited about seeing her family and dealing with their particular brand of nonsense.

Chapter 5: Fame

5.4 Fame: The Woodwork

Aaliyah was back in her office trying to figure out what to do about Jean Pierre when her dad called.

“Hey, dad,” Aaliyah said as she answered the phone.

“Hey, honey.” He replied. “Aaliyah I need to speak with Dominic immediately.” He said sternly.

“Dad you sound mad what’s wrong?” she asked.

“I have seen these pictures all over the internet with him and some other girl in bed.” He replied angrily. “Did you know about this Aaliyah?” he asked.

“Of course not!” she exclaimed. “But dad he said it was in the past and I believe him,” Aaliyah said.

“Well I don’t and I and he need to have a serious talk.” He told her.

“Yes, sir.” She replied.

“How was your first meeting?” he asked.

“It went pretty well considering all everyone could talk about was those pictures, I agreed to a feature in the magazine to discuss them.” She said.

“And what about Dominic is he going to publicly address this?” her father asked.

“Yes sir in the magazine alongside me,” Aaliyah said.

Her father sighed. “You deserve better Aaliyah let me set you up with one of my friend’s sons.” He pleaded.

“Dad I love Dominic I told you that already and you said yes when he asked for my hand in marriage.” She stated.

“That’s when I thought he had changed, he promised me he would take care of you.” He said furiously.

“Dad calm down he has changed and he does take care of me.” She replied.

“I’m on my way up I want to have lunch at your favorite place.” He said.

“Okay, see you in a minute.” She answered then they both hung up the phone.

Aaliyah needed some time away from the office she was sick of everyone staring at her. She would be so happy when those pictures were old news. Aaliyah was grabbing her purse when Bianca rushed in.

“Girl more pictures just came out,” Bianca said.

“I’m not worried about that pathetic thirsty little girl she is going to get her fifteen minutes of fame soon enough,” Aaliyah replied.

“These pictures aren’t with Sandra,” Bianca said.

“What? Then who are they with?” Aaliyah asked as she snatched Bianca’s phone out of her hand. “Who the fuck is this?” she yelled. “And this?” she asked. “Bianca there is like ten different women on here,” Aaliyah said looking confused and hurt.

“Maybe this happened when you two took that break,” Bianca said trying to comfort her.

“No, I recognize this watch he has on I got it for his birthday seven months ago,” Aaliyah said as she handed Bianca her phone.

Aaliyah shook her head and sat down on the couch in her office. “I believed him, I’m so stupid.” She said.

Bianca sat down beside her and put her arm around her. Aaliyah wanted to cry but she refused to do it while she was still in the office so she just put her down and tried to hold it together. She didn’t want to give Raquel the satisfaction of knowing she had gotten to her.

“Aaliyah.” Someone called as they opened the door to her office.

“Dad?” she replied as she turned to face him.

“Honey, what’s wrong?” he asked as he shut the door.

Aaliyah stood up, embraced her father and began to cry. He wrapped his arms around her. “What happened?” he asked Bianca. Bianca held up her phone and showed him the pictures.

“I’m going to kill him.” He said.

You Created A Monster

You told me that you loved me

With a mouthful of lies

I fell for those lips

In my heart and in my mind

To drunk on love to believe my own eyes

In my drunken stupor

I made logic of out of no sense

You made me a monster

Love made me a bitch

You said that you wanted me

While those sad eyes cried

With each tear that fell

A piece of me died

I couldn’t watch you in pain

So I returned

Now I’m maimed by the lessons I have learned

I should have never put my guard down

You knew my weakness

You gained my trust

You used my secrets against me

Betrayal divided us

You were the fire

I got burned

Now I’m tortured by the lessons I have learned

You created a monster

Wait On The Lord

It is hard to be patient when you have waited for so long for something. But you are not waiting on God he is waiting on you. We have to learn to be patient with ourselves and stay the course. You don’t have the life you want yet because you are not the person you need to be yet. You have not met the requirements for God’s promise. You may be asking yourself what have I not done? What did I miss? I often ask myself the same questions. I feel like I have done all I can do to turn my life around but I’m still not where I need to be. Then one day it hit me. When you have done all you can then its time to be patient and wait on God.

You can get all the ingredients for a dish and do all the prep, but when the recipe calls for the dish to simmer you have to wait. Sometimes you have to let things marinate and ferment. You can’t rush greatness, and you can’t hurry God. Patience is the capacity to accept or tolerate delay, trouble, or suffering without getting angry or upset. You have to be humble, thankful and grateful while also being patient.

We as Christians have to become more virtuous. We are so quick to ask but we are slow to give. When I say give I don’t mean your ten percent in the church offering I mean to give of yourself. God wants your heart and your time, not your money. Now I’m not saying to not pay your tithes, you are supposed to pay tithes. Tithes are not for God though they are for the furthering of the ministry and for the support of the helpless. Paying tithes is not going to secure you a seat in heaven, faith does that and faith without works is dead.

Genesis chapter nineteen talks about Lot and his family in Sodom and Gomorrah.

Genesis 19:26

say’s 26 But his wife looked back from behind him, and she became a pillar of salt.

We all have a Sodom and Gomorrah in our lives that God is trying to save us from. Some of us are still looking back to our old lives and the bible say’s a double-minded mind is unstable in all his ways. I know that you get weary waiting because I get weary. But when God says don’t turn around you can’t look back. There is a promised land waiting for you on the other side of your trials but have to keep moving forward. God is testing you right now.

James 1:3-4

say’s Knowing this, that the trying of your faith worketh patience. But let patience have her perfect work, that ye may be perfect and entire, wanting nothing.

God wants a ride or die he needs somebody real. He wants someone who is down for better or worse. He wants someone who will praise him through sickness and health. God wants to know that when things get hard you aren’t going to leave and go back to your ex. If you were about to give someone everything they want and need wouldn’t you want to know that loved you for real? So many people get into God and church because they think Christianity is some kind of magic spell. You can’t just pay your tithes and shout then expect a blessing if you still aren’t living right. Salvation is free.

1 Samuel 16:7

say’s but the Lord said unto Samuel, Look not on his countenance, or on the height of his stature; because I have refused him: for the Lord seeth not as man seeth; for man looketh on the outward appearance, but the Lord looketh on the heart.

Matthew 15:17-20

say’s 17 “Don’t you see that whatever enters the mouth goes into the stomach and then out of the body? 18 But the things that come out of the mouth come from the heart, and these make a man ‘unclean.’ 19 For out of the heart come evil thoughts, murder, adultery, sexual immorality, theft, false testimony, slander. 20 These are what make a man ‘unclean’; but eating with unwashed hands does not make him ‘unclean.’

If you are waiting on God you have to be real because he will weed out the ones who aren’t really for him. Like I said God is testing you, he is testing your faith.

Hebrews 11:6

say’s But without faith, it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.

Faith is complete trust or confidence in someone or something. You will suffer because suffering produces endurance and endurance produces character and character produces hope. When you have hope you can have faith.

Hebrews 11:1

say’s now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.

God is planting you by the water and giving you time to grow. There is old spiritual that says a tree that is planted by the water cannot be moved. The bible says ’s a man that delighted in the law of the Lord shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that bringeth forth his fruit in his season; his leaf also shall not wither, and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper. When construction workers build a house they put down a foundation first and then they wait for that foundation to settle before they start to build. God is building something inside of you so be patient because anything worth having is worth waiting for.

James 5:8

8 You also, be patient. Establish your hearts, for the coming of the Lord, is at hand.

Angelica was curious. Who is here? She thought. She knew she had to find out. Angelica went over to the bar where Daniel was making drinks. “Who are those for?” she asked.

“Kimura.” He answered.

“I just heard Akeno tell him that someone was here, it sounds important.” She whispered. “We need to get back there.” She added.

“Okay.” Daniel nodded his head as he poured the last drink.

He was just about to take the drinks to the office when Han appeared. “I got it,” he said taking the drinks from Daniel.

“Are you sure? Because I can take it.” Daniel said.

“I’m sure, go help Devon,” Han replied.

People started to enter the club and it slowly started to fill up. Daniel and Angelica desperately needed a way into that office. Angelica watched as Daniel cut up more lemons and limes that Han had brought up from the kitchen. Then Angelica got an idea she knocked all of the fruit off of the bar and onto the floor.

“Oh my goodness I’m so clumsy.” She said as Devon rolled her eyes.

“What are you doing?” Daniel whispered.

“Devon is busy and Han is out of sight so I guess you are the only one who can go in the back and get more fruit.” She hinted.

“Oh.” He said catching on. “Hey, Devon I’m going to go to the kitchen and get more fruit,” Daniel said.

Devon nodded her head and brushed him off like she was annoyed by his presence. Daniel winked at Angelica and headed to the kitchen.

Daniel went into the back and he saw that the office door was closed. He glanced around to see if anyone was coming then he put his ear to the door.

“What can I do to make this deal more appealing to you?” he heard Kimura ask.

“That area is zoned for residential I’m going to need more money if you want these permits to happen.” A familiar voice replied.

Daniel knew that voice but he couldn’t put his finger on it. “And I want free access to any girl I want in this club for life.” The voice added.

Kimura laughed, “You drive a hard bargain, Cabrera, I’ll give you two million and all the access you want.”

“We got a deal.” The voice answered.

Cabrera? Daniel thought. Why does that name sound familiar, he wondered. Daniel was deep in thought when he heard someone coming. He quickly made his way to the kitchen.

“Where’s the fruit for the bar?” he asked.

“In walk-in cooler.” A line cook said.

Daniel went into the cooler and grabbed the fruit when he came out Devon was standing there with her hand on her hip. “I couldn’t find it.” He said. Devon snatched the fruit out of his hand and rolled her eyes. He chuckled as he followed her back to the bar.

“Well, what happened?” Angelica whispered.

“Kimura and some guy named Cabrera got some deal for permits of a residential area.” He quietly replied.

“Cabrera?” Angelica asked trying to figure out who that could be. She gasped, “Mayor Cabrera.”

“That makes sense,” Daniel replied as he nodded his head.

Angelo was heated there was no way he was going to let Camilla go on a date with Alejandro. Angelo stormed down the stairs to the kitchen where Alejandro was still standing drinking. “I need you to talk to you,” Angelo said angrily.

“Okay, but first you need to take some of that bass out of your voice,” Alejandro said as he calmly gave Angelo a displeased look.

“Am I supposed to be afraid of you?” Angelo asked.

“I’m not trying to frighten you Lo but I am warning you, you need to calm down,” Alejandro replied.

“Or what, are you going to fight me?” Angelo asked. “Or better yet are you going to shoot me because you have been doing that a lot lately!” he yelled.

“What is this about, Camilla?” Alejandro asked becoming annoyed. “You jealous bro?” he questioned. “Get out of your feelings and out of my face before I really get mad.” He stated as he began to walk out of the room.

Angelo punched Alejandro in the side of the head as he walked by. Alejandro laughed, “You hit like a bitch.” He took a swing at Angelo landing a punch square in his face. His nose began to trickle blood. Angelo reached for his nose and wiped away the blood as he glared at Alejandro with hate he is eyes. “Oh, you want some more?” Alejandro laughed. “Okay cousin.” He said rolling up his sleeves as Angelo huffed and puffed. “Let’s go then.” He said. Angelo rushed Alejandro and tackled him to the ground. They were wrestling and hitting each other causing a loud disturbance throughout the house.

Camilla was looking in her closet for shoes when she heard the commotion. “What is that noise?” asked aloud stopping dead in her tracks. She quietly listened for a moment and she heard the faint sound of grunting. She quickly left her room and ran downstairs towards the noise. “What the hell is going on!” she screamed when she saw Alejandro and Angelo fighting. “Stop it!” she yelled as she ran over and tried to pull Alejandro off of Angelo. “Stop it!” she yelled again pulling at Alejandro’s shirt. Alejandro stopped hitting Angelo and got up out of breath.

“Angelo are you okay?” she asked kneeling down beside him and touching his face.

“I’m fine.” He lashed out as he pulled away.

Camilla was stunned, “excuse me then.”

Angelo got up from the floor and rushed upstairs. Camilla slowly stood up and glared at Alejandro with a look of disappointment. “Hey, he hit me first.” He said as he rubbed his knuckles.

“How’s your shoulder?” She asked nonchalantly.

“It’s fine.” He answered.

“I swear you two are like children.” She said. “Do you think you can stay out of trouble while I finish getting dressed?” she asked sarcastically.

“You still want to go out?” He asked astounded.

“Yes after all this I need a drink.” She said. “And you better not say I’m underage.” She said before he could reply as she went back upstairs. Alejandro smiled to himself and poured another drink.

Chapter 5: The Beginning of the End

5.3 Revenge: Scratch

Dawn was walking down the sidewalk on the way to her car when a well-dressed man coming out of the restaurant next door stopped her. “Hey, baby can I go with you?” He asked. Dawn just shook her head and kept walking trying to ignore him. “Oh you can’t speak?” he asked. “You think you too cute or something?” he continued.

Dawn was becoming annoyed as the man followed her all the way to her car taunting her. Dawn calmly opened her car door and sat her food in the backseat. “Such an expensive suit on such a cheap man.” She said as she slammed the door. At that moment it was like a switch flipped in her mind, it was as if she was another person. Dawn’s entire personality had changed. “Now what are you going to do with me?” She asked as she moved closer to him. “Do you really think you are even in my lane?” she laughed.

“I’m a millionaire.” He said.

“Oh is that so and a married man I see, your wife must feel so lucky.” She said sarcastically.

“I can do whatever I want.” He replied.

“Well, you are a grown man.” She stated as she grazed his arm with her fingertips. Dawn was laying it on thick and he was taking it all in. “The real question is can you handle me because I can definitely handle you.” Dawn smiled and said cockily as she leaned back on the hood of her car. He began to smile and loosen his tie.

“I can.” He said as he tried to kiss her. Dawn quickly moved her head. “Did I say you could kiss me?” she asked as she became furious.

“I thought,” he stammered.

“Oh don’t hurt yourself.” She laughed as she stood up. “Get in,” she said as she got in the car.

He hurriedly got in the passenger seat. Dawn smiled mischievously and cranked up the car. “What’s with all the plastic?” he asked looking around the car.

“Easy clean up.” She said as she pulled off.

“What?” he asked as she jammed a pocketknife into his neck.

He began to flail and grab for his neck. She quickly locked the doors so he couldn’t escape. Dawn was taking all the back roads to avoid detection. As the man bleed out in her car Dawn began to calmly talk to him.

“You should have just left me alone, you could have been home with your wife right now.” She said. “You men are all the same you have to have your cake and eat it too.” She laughed. “You greedy motherfuckers!” she yelled. “Hey are you listening to me!” she screamed. “Oh, you’re dead, just like a man to die so he doesn’t have to listen.” She said through clenched teeth.

Dawn pulled into her garage and shut the door behind her. She rolled up his body in the plastic covering the interior of the car then she dragged him out of her car. She placed his body is this huge plastic tub. Then she began to put on gloves and a mask.

“Good riddance.” She said as she poured acid all over his body.

5.3 Divine Intervention: Mommy Dearest

It was the next day, early in the morning and Jessica was already awake on her way to the studio. Kash had sent a limousine to pick her up. She was on her way out the door when her cell phone rang.

“Hi, Jennifer.” She said as she answered the phone. “Hey mom just boarded her plane and she’ll be here in two hours,” Jennifer said.

“Okay,” Jessica replied annoyed.

“She wants to have lunch with you,” Jennifer said.

“What for Jennifer?” Jessica asked. “We don’t get along she doesn’t care about me so why does she want to see me now?” She questioned.

“She misses you, Jessica,” Jennifer replied.

“She doesn’t miss me, what did you tell her I have a rich boyfriend? Does she want money or something?” Jessica argued. “Look I have to go, I have a studio session I’ll call you later.” She said.

“What about lunch?” Jennifer asked.

“I’ll let you know,” Jessica said as she hung up the phone. I don’t need this I have to be in my right mind when I get to the studio, she thought. Jessica checked to make sure she had everything then she went downstairs to wait for the limo driver.

Jessica didn’t want to be bothered by her mother. She wasn’t ready to forgive her yet. Everything was going so well in her life right now. Her mother only wanted to come and complicate things for her. Jessica could remember when she left home and her mother didn’t even tell her goodbye. She could remember how badly her mother had treated her and how she never stood up for her. She wasn’t just mean, she was cruel and now she wanted to come and hang out like nothing happened. The limo pulled up and Kash got out the backseat.

“Are you going with me to the studio?” Jessica asked.

“Yes, I have been given the task of managing you.” He said as he ushered her into the car.

“My sister called me this morning and she and my mom want to have lunch today,” Jessica said once they were in the car.

“Oh really? You should go.” He told her.

“I don’t know if I’m ready to be alone with her and my sister just yet, you remember what happened at dinner with Jennifer and her fiancé last night.” She said.

“I can go with you if you want,” Kash stated.

“Are you sure you want to do that?” she asked.

“My mom is twice as bad as Jennifer.” She added.

“I can handle her.” He replied with a smile.

“Thank you,” Jessica said as she leaned in and kissed Kash.

Jessica began to think that maybe she could get through a lunch with her mom and sister. What could they do or say that they haven’t already? She thought.

“Listen to these tracks and figure out which one you like,” Kash said as he plugged in his Mp3 player.

“I’m not going to write my own songs?” she asked.

“You will be able to write your owns song but the label wants you to do some songs by well-known producers and songwriters as well,” Kash answered. “But you will be able to write all your own lyrics.” He added. Kash pressed play and music began to fill the limo as he started to nod his head.

“I like this one.” She said with a smile.

5.3 Fame: Hot Topic

It was time for the meeting and the entire office was still reeling from the photos. Aaliyah refused to let them see her sweat she had to go about her day like this scandal was no big deal. She had to walk into that meeting full of her peers with her head held high and she did just that.

“Okay everyone I know you’ve seen photos, so let’s go ahead and get the questions out of the way.” She said as she sat down at the head of the long table.

“I think we should run the story before anyone else does and let you tell your side of the story,” Bianca said.

“Yeah, let’s do a spread with you and Dominic.” Someone else chimed in.

“Yeah, I’m sure Dominic would love to explain himself,” Raquel said sarcastically.

“You know what let’s interview the girl in the pictures too, she’s Raquel’s assistant,” Aaliyah said.

Raquel’s eyes got big as Aaliyah finished her sentence. What was she up to, she thought. Why would Aaliyah want to interview Sandra and put her in the magazine alongside her and Dominic, she wondered.

“Any objections?” Aaliyah asked gazing around the room. No one said a word and a mischievous grin formed across her lips. “Okay moving on.” She said.

“Bianca, what’s next on the agenda?” Aaliyah asked.

“We still need male models for the model article we’re doing,” Bianca replied.

“Any suggestions?” Aaliyah questioned.

“Jean Pierre is pretty hot right now,” Raquel answered.

Aaliyah swallowed hard and tried not to react. Somehow Raquel had found out Jean Pierre’s name, Aaliyah thought. Raquel was waiting on an answer from Aaliyah with a gleeful expression on her face. Aaliyah was stunned she had no idea how to handle this. If she said yes that meant that Jean Pierre would be here in her office building asking questions about her life trying to be closer than they were. Jean Pierre wanted to be serious but Aaliyah told him she wasn’t ready she said that she was focused on her career but the truth was she was already serious with someone else. How would she explain the huge diamond ring on her finger? Then she could say no but there would still be questions because he was the hottest model in the world right now.

“Aaliyah what do you think?” Bianca asked.

“Um yeah, he’d be perfect.” She replied. “Is that everything?” she asked.

“Yes, that’s it,” Bianca said.

“Okay, Bianca I’ll get with you later to set a time for the interview,” Aaliyah said. “Everyone dismissed.” She added.

Aaliyah looked calm on the outside but inside she was panicking. She quickly went into her office shut all the blinds and locked the door. She sat down at her desk and took a long deep breath.

“What are you up to now Raquel?” she asked aloud shaking her head. Aaliyah pulled out a bottle of vodka from her desk drawer and a glass. She slowly poured herself a drink then turned her chair around to face the window so she could think.

“Girl we got her now,” Raquel said as she entered her office.

“What happened?” Sandra asked.

“Well there’s good news and bad news,” Raquel replied sitting down on the couch in her office next to Sandra.

“What’s the bad news?” She asked.

“You have to do an interview for the magazine about sleeping with Dominic.” Raquel quickly blurted out.

“No way.” Sandra shook her head.

“if you don’t do it they will just make things up,” Raquel explained. “But we will discuss that later I got good news.” She said.

“Aaliyah is having an affair with a French model and he’s going to do a spread in our magazine,” Raquel said.

“She agreed to that?” Sandra asked.

“Yes she had to he’s hot right now, so that was the best decision for the magazine,” Raquel stated. “It’s not so bad for us either.” She grinned.
